D Minor: 2nd & 3rd Positions

Within this class we will demonstrate how to play the D Minor chord in it’s 3 most common positions. The D Minor chord starts off on the 3rd fret by marking the 2nd, 3rd and 4th strings. This chord can be further enhanced by adding the 1st string on the 2nd fret to give it a slightly different feel making it into a 6th (similar to that seen with the E Minor in it’s second position).

D Minor 1st Position

Dm

The 2nd position of D Minor is played using the figure of B Minor. The chord is played starting off on the 5th fret on the 1st string and following on with the remainder of the strings being played on the 3rd fret.

The 3rd Position can be played by making use of a figure not previously touched upon which too corresponds to the minors. However, in this occasion we will focus on the figures of G Minor which will be converted in that to the D Minor by playing the 1st string on the 8th fret, 2nd string on the 9th fret, 3rd string on the 8th fret and finally the 4th string on the 10th fret.
