Welcome to “Ukulele Basics”, a course designed to introduce you to the world of the Ukulele. In this course, you will learn all the essential skills and knowledge you need to get started with this fun and versatile instrument.

Joel has developed this course on Ukulele Basics – 101, to cover most of the topics that arise when somebody decides to start learning the ukulele. We will begin by covering the basics of Ukulele tuning, so you can make sure your instrument is sounding its best. Next, we will discuss the different types of Ukulele, so you can choose the one that is right for you. We will also cover the proper way to hold and play the Ukulele, as well as the basic strumming patterns that are used in most songs.

Ukulele Basics Course

The course is a series of videos where Joel explains in detail various aspects of the instrument and techniques to kickstart your learning.

This Ukulele Basics course is divided into six lessons and two songs. Each lesson discusses notes of the open strings, mnemonics, sizes, left and right-hand position, down and upwards strumming, chords and diagrams, notes, melodies, etc.

Once you have a solid foundation in the basics, we will move on to more advanced topics, such as reading chord diagrams and playing popular songs. We will start with the classic Beatles song “Eleanor Rigby”, and then move on to a ’50s Three Chord Medley, which will give you the chance to put your new skills to the test.

The first song is Eleanor Rigby, played in F, and the second song is a Medley with three songs from the ’50s, played in C. Be sure to have your Ukulele at hand when you’re watching the videos because you’ll be playing right from the start!

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

This “Ukulele Basics” course is designed for beginners who are interested in learning how to play the Ukulele. It is suitable for people of all ages and skill levels, from complete beginners who have never played an instrument before to musicians that play other instruments and want to add the Ukulele to their repertoire.

“This short video course was made for my students to help them thoroughly absorb all the information that is discussed in our first session together (Beginner Uke Part 1). The videos were recorded during the first session of a 4-week class. It introduces the concepts that we develop and extends throughout that class.” – Joel Jacques.
