On this occasion, Cheo Hurtado explains briefly the possibility to tune the Cuatro in a higher tuning. This was a style which was made possible and explored by Venezuelan musician Freddy Reyna and it still used at times today. The tuning itself remains the same for the A, D u0026amp; F# strings. It changes with the B string where this is traditionally tuned being a lower note. This is the tuning better known as the Cam-bur-pinton.
In the Freddy Reyna tuning, as we will refer to it, is where the B string is tuned at a higher note.
This tuning provides a magnificent effect to the Cuatro. Essentially all of the songs can still be played making use of this method of tuning. The recommendation would be to most definitely give it a try.
