The bending technique is widely used in the world of guitarists. The effect itself gives an extended feeling to the note being played on the fretboard. It is executed by simply holding down the string on the fretboard and pulling the string slightly using a descending motion. This gives the note the sensation that it is being extended and can really put some great accents to specific notes.

Bending Demonstration – Abraham Sarache

Towards the end, there is a bit more than bending going on. We’ll cover this effect later, but Abraham Sarache makes use of the metal frets themselves to produce different sounds using the Cuatro. Next time you start to finger pick any simple piece or in the songs which you will be learning in the next section of this course, be certain to make use of this option to experiment a bit.
