The Gavilan is a rhythm or subgenre of Joropo which is very popular due it’s affiliation with the song “El Gavilan” written by Ignacion Figueredo. It is a song about a broad-winged hawk and the experience of the singer with the bird upon which he sings. The song begins to mimic the sounds of the bird of prey and is a wonderful piece by this famous and iconic artist. The progression itself is rather simple and it sounds great as you start to try this in different positions.

Within this topic we will first demonstrate how to execute the Gavilan followed by some nice finger picking and playing of the song which made the rhythm so famous, “El Gavilan”
